• Active Ingredient: Palbociclib (125 mg)
• Mechanism of Action: Palbociclib works by blocking the proteins CDK4 and CDK6, which are essential for cell growth and division. This action stops the cancer cell cycle, preventing the uncontrolled multiplication and spread of cancer cells. It is a targeted therapy, not a traditional chemotherapy.
• Uses: It is specifically indicated for the treatment of hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is always used in combination with other hormonal anticancer therapies, such as an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant.
• Dosage/Administration: The typical dosage involves taking one 125 mg capsule orally once daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day break, completing a 28-day cycle. The capsules must be swallowed whole with food at the same time each day and should not be opened, crushed, or chewed.
