Nykron 300mg/0.5mg Tablet is a prescription medicine that is used to treat nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy. It works by blocking the release of chemicals such as serotonin and substance P which are responsible for causing nausea and vomiting.
Nykron works through a dual mechanism to provide long-lasting relief from nausea and vomiting:
- Palonosetron is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, which works by blocking the action of a natural substance called serotonin in the brain and gastrointestinal system, preventing acute nausea and vomiting (within the first 24 hours).
- Netupitant is a neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist, which blocks another natural substance called substance P in the brain, effectively preventing delayed nausea and vomiting (more than 24 hours after treatment).
Administration
Nykron is typically administered as a single oral dose about an hour before the start of chemotherapy or immediately before anesthesia for surgery. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food, as directed by a healthcare professional.
Common Side Effects
Common side effects can include:
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- Dizziness
More serious, but rare, side effects may include severe allergic reactions such as hives, a swollen face, breathing difficulties, and chest pain, in which case immediate medical attention should be sought.
