• Active Ingredient: Pegfilgrastim (6 mg per dose).
• Mechanism of Action: Pegfilgrastim encourages the bone marrow to produce more neutrophils, a type of white blood cell essential for the body's immune system to fight off bacterial infections.
• Uses:
  • Reducing the incidence and duration of neutropenia (low white blood cell count) caused by myelosuppressive anti-cancer drugs.
  • Decreasing the risk of developing febrile neutropenia (fever with a low white blood cell count).
  • Increasing survival rates in patients exposed to high doses of radiation that damage bone marrow.
• Administration: It is administered as a single subcutaneous (under the skin) injection once per chemotherapy cycle, typically at least 24 hours after the last dose of chemotherapy.
• Common Side Effects: The most common side effects include bone pain, joint pain, headache, nausea, and pain or redness at the injection site.
• Important Precautions:
  • Inform your doctor if you have sickle cell disease, kidney problems, or lung issues, as this medication may worsen these conditions.
  • Do not receive Pegstim within 14 days before or 24 hours after your chemotherapy dose.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing) or signs of an enlarged spleen (left upper abdominal pain or shoulder pain).
