Glenza 40mg is prescribed to treat various stages of prostate cancer:
- Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC): Cancer that has spread to other body parts and no longer responds to treatments that lower testosterone.
- Non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC): Cancer that has not visibly spread but is no longer responding to hormone-lowering treatments.
- Metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer: Used in combination with other hormone therapy when the cancer has spread but still responds to hormone-lowering treatments.
In some cases, it may also be used to manage symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or excessive hair growth in women, as determined by a doctor.
How It Works
Prostate cancer cells often rely on male hormones (androgens), such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), to grow and multiply. Enzalutamide works by blocking the androgen receptors in these cancer cells. This action prevents the male hormones from binding to the receptors and signaling the cancer cells to grow, effectively slowing the cancer's progression or causing the tumor to shrink.
