Cresp 500mcg is primarily used to treat anemia (a low red blood cell count, which causes symptoms like fatigue and shortness of breath) in specific patient populations:
- Individuals with long-term, serious (chronic) kidney disease, including those on dialysis.
- Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy for certain types of non-myeloid cancers.
It works by stimulating the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells, which helps reverse anemia and can reduce the need for blood transfusions.
Administration
This medication is administered by a healthcare professional as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous) or into a vein (intravenous). Patients may be trained to self-administer the subcutaneous injection at home, but this should only be done after receiving proper instructions from a doctor or nurse. It should not be self-administered without professional training.
