Product Description

• Active Ingredient: Abiraterone acetate 500 mg.
• Class: Androgen biosynthesis inhibitor (a type of antineoplastic or anti-cancer agent).
• Mechanism of Action: Prostate cancer cells need male hormones (androgens), particularly testosterone, to grow. Abiraterone works by inhibiting the CYP17 enzyme, which is crucial for the production of these hormones in the testes, adrenal glands, and tumor tissue, thereby "starving" the cancer cells and slowing their growth.
• Indications:
  • Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC): For cancer that has spread and no longer responds to hormonal therapy alone.
  • Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mHSPC): For newly diagnosed, high-risk cancer that has spread, used in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).
• Usage Note: Abilat 500 is typically used in combination with a steroid medication like prednisone or prednisolone to help manage side effects and improve effectiveness. It is for use in adult men only and is contraindicated in women, especially those who are or may be pregnant, due to potential harm to the fetus. 

• Take on an Empty Stomach: The tablets must be swallowed whole with water on an empty stomach, meaning at least one hour before food or two hours after eating. Taking it with food significantly increases the absorption of the medicine and can lead to side effects.
